A new multi-million pound young people's centre in Leicestershire is set to benefit from an innovative timber and steel hybrid frame provided by B & K Structures.

The Hinckley Centre for Young People received a £4.7m grant from the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part of the Myplace initiative which has so far provided funding to over 60 projects across England.

B & K Structures is installing 134 cu m of glulam timber and 92 tonnes of hot and cold rolled steel to form the integrated hybrid structure. Glulam rafters will be used to support the roof structure across the whole length of the building at varying centres, while the stability of the structure will be achieved using a system of braced bays.

Working alongside main contractor ROK Building Ltd, the project is worth almost £300,000 to B & K Structures and will be on-site for approximately six weeks. Through careful design and detailing, B & K Structures will be able to combine the aesthetic and environmental benefits of timber with the economic advantages of steel to give the club a framework to boast about.
